Forced Connections

Forced connections is basically a technique used when you're running out of ideas. It is to design things by taking two unrelated concepts and combine the relationship of their characteristics between two things you have chosen. It helps to solve problems by challenging yourself to brainstorm out of the box to come out with something, targeting your problem faced. It's a kinda of new method I've learn to help in designing besides S.W.O.T etc. You have to understand the situation and also the characteristic before you can start designing. And you'll be amaze at how you could simply connect two unrelated things that you'll never think can be related being put together and come out with something new. A new and good idea could come out just like that.

Water bottle being designed as a weight so that people can exercise and drink water after exercising. Thought with the characteristic of water being heavy.
Idea of a spoon and a folk and a knife combined together so that it's easy to bring for camps. Bringing these utensils for travel and camps are really a hassle if there are too many so by combining them makes it easy.
Pencil and clothes peg being combine together. Both are made with wood so designer make use of  similar material to combine together.
Apple came up with the design of apple watch which makes it a watch as well as a phone
Designer combine a cutter and a wire bend together so that person who use it doesn't have to keep changing, making it as a 2-in-1
These coffee company came up with a 2-in-1 coffee so that buyers can just enjoy a cup of coffee simply by adding hot water to the packet prepared. Having that both sugar/milk can be similar to coffee powder
Computers are now also designed such that it can be a drawing tool too for designers or even taken out as a tablet for easy accessible.
Portable charger are also designed with the addition of torchlight so that it has a few functions instead of being just a charger
aroma diffuser and humidifier being used as one to help to save space, both having the characteristic of helping to cleanse the air and the smell
Staple and scotch-tape design as one tool

Item: Candle

Sad: Skull candle that will eventually melt through the eyes and mouth to convey nothing in life last forever, the skull starts to bleed and tear as it melts.

Passionate: A heart getting struck by lighting and burning to show that it's passionately burning for something that struck it's heart

Brave: lion simply signifies brave as everyone knows so having a lion candle burning to indicate its bravery

Creative: Humans think through their brains and we need to think to create things out of creativity, out of the box and so I choose a brain with three candles, showing that it's thinking more than the usual.

Greedy: A human in a coffin being filled with jewels, gold and cash. Showing that the person has been greedy his whole life and even till death, he has to die with all these valuables that he earned in his life. The candle will be the cross above the coffin, his greed has rule over his life.

Hardworking: Elephant on a treadmill running candle. Elephants are known to be hardworking animal and having it running on a treadmill simply shows the elephant being hardworking.

Pareidolia

This week we learnt about Pareidolia, it's like seeing an image in an image. It is a psychological phenomenon involving a vague and random stimulus being perceived as significant. We were given 45 minutes to find images of it within the school compound and these are what I've found.
Water Fountain
The wall outside the gallery
The emergency plug
I inverted the lift buttons with the handicapped signed and it looks like eyes with a mouth
The clock created the eyes of the face
The cabinet in the in the lounge

These are examples of pareidolia I found in the school vicinity.
Collaging those my group found together:
There are so many examples of such around us in our daily life, if we could just spend time or even pay more attention to some things around us, you could simply find them anywhere around you.

Once you finish fixing a set of Lego, the sense of satisfaction makes you really proud of yourself. I really enjoy fixing Lego so to me it's a pleasure. Some people may find it boring or tiring doing it because they do not have the passion for it and it's a rather expensive hobby.

Lateral Thinking

This week's lesson was about thinking out of the norm. We're suppose to think like how normal people wouldn't think and come out with ideas.
First, we had to think of how to draw the diagram given in one stroke without lifting up our pen and it took us quite awhile before we realise the solution for it.
It wasn't easy yet not difficult as you could come up with the solution once and you'll forget how you even got it till a few times. Our group couldn't stop trying till someone did and shared it.
The 2nd assignment was to shift 3 balls in the given diagram to change the direction of it. I was the first to came up with the solution and shared it with the group. It was quite easy, it took me just 15seconds to come up with the solution.

We had one question of whether to pick the candle, oil lamp, wooden stick to be lighted up first if we had a matchstick. I personally choose candle because once you light the candle, you could light every other thing else, but of course you had to lit the matchstick first.
And lastly, how could we resolve the problem of having your neighbour chicken kept coming into your garden to eat up your plants without offending him/her.
We came up with these solutions as a group. I came up with the sensor idea that every time the chicken invades, the alarm would allow a speaker to speak so that the chickens will be afraid.

Basically these sums up what we did in class and I am really amaze with what my group can come up with every week, their creative ideas and all just amuse me.

Description

100 ways to describe myself:
Description of item:

Night Festival
Went to the festival as a class and the first thing we saw was this so Josh decided to gave it a try.
The performer was playing this musical instruments with long strings in front of the national museum, coins could also become a musical instruments as it produces sound when many are placed together, it would be cool if "I" could be used as a performance for the festival.
One of the exhibit that caught my eyes was this contract light string tunnel thing. Time and time they would let out smoke to create an effect and make the colour more obvious. I could also be part of it by hanging me on the strings. Different coins have different colour so it could also add to it and add up to the contrast.
Caught these macrons tower so it gave me the thought of having a coin tower that could fill up all the spaces

The lights are of round shape and made with metal wires, there are designers that came up with coin lamps which I thought I could be added to this light design and make the light stand out more...
Lastly, we went to the museum and there was this light effect show with the scenery of jungle and also bricks effect... I could also be one of the displayed effects, covering the outer of the museum. I'm sure it would be beautiful.
